Deer mice prefer to be outdoors.  They rarely occupy homes and can usually be found in rural areas. On rare occasions, deer mice will migrate indoors and prefer undisturbed areas, such as attics.

Food Source

Primarily herbivores, but will consume caterpillars, spiders and grasshoppers on occasion. They are fonder of grains, seeds, nuts and berries

Deer mice may appear harmless, but they are known to be carriers of dangerous diseases, such as Hantavirus. This disease can be transmitted through contact with mouse carcasses, or by breathing in aerosolized urine droplets of infected deer mice. Never touch a dead deer mouse with your bear hands. They should be sprayed with disinfectant and then be swept up.
