Habitat
Roof rats get their name from their choice of habitat. They tend to prefer elevated areas such trees, rafters, attics and of course, roofs. They will nest inside and under buildings or in piles of debris. These roof climbers become sexually mature at four months, producing litters of four to six per year that consist of four to eight young each.
Food Source
Roof rats primarily fruits and nuts, but will go for any available food source. They have also been known to consume tree bark, meat and grain. These creatures hoard their food when a portion of their findings are too large to consume in one sitting.
Threats
Roof rats are known for the damage they cause by chewing on materials. Roof rats are historically known for spreading the rare bubonic plague. They support many ectoparasites and urinate on food.
